Talking Women of the Dust - Clothing

My new series, Women of the Dust, is based around a matriarchal society that hasn’t known patriarchal constructs for generations. When I had to design what they wear, it was the first time (of many) where I was confronted with my own internal bias around ingrained social constructs. I had to ask myself, what would women wear if they had never been influenced by the male gaze?

These women are warriors, barely surviving in a futuristic, desolate world. Yet, they are still mothers, lovers, friends and creatives.

They are women.

And so I decided they can wear whatever they damn well want.
